Sound of the City, Vol. 12 (Mixtape)

The folks at 4seen Magazine have been putting out these monthly Sound of the City mixtapes for a year now. Coming from someone who writes a blog — and does so horribly inconsistently — this is a respectable feat. The latest tape features the late Fly Henderson, Mike Dreams, K.Raydio, Bobby Raps, Tek, Big Dylan, MaLLy, Mike the Martyr, I Self Divine, and more. Hit the jump to stream it.

WagOutParty.com Presents: Wag Out! The Mixtape

To say Minneapolis' Wag movement is starting to reach any sort of niche cultural significance would be selling it short. Franz Diego is hosting multiple parties per month at Minneapolis venues. The term is reliably blowing up on my Twitter timeline. And now, WagOutParty.com is releasing a free mixtape featuring music from all sorts of artists associated with the Wag scene: Illuminous 3, Greg Grease, The Usual SuspectS, P.O.S., Mike Mictlan, Spyder Baybie Raw Dog, Lizzo, Yakub, Audio Perm, Mike Frey and more. Toki Wright: "Ode to Maximillian Cohen (π)" (Music Video)

Here's the new video from Toki Wright  for his song "Ode to Maximillian Cohen (π)," a dedication to the paranoid mathmatician protagonist in Darren Aronofsky's 1998 film Pi (π). The song, to be featured on Toki's upcoming Faders mixtape (out 3/31), was produced by Bobby Raps and the video was shot by Adam Dunn.

I'd also like to wish the homie Toki a very happy birthday.

Now, he's officially released his Gimme Daps mixtape, establishing himself among the brightest young talents in the Twin Cities rap scene. The 18-year old from Saint Paul showcases his talents on the 10-song mixtape, which also features Freez of Illuminous 3 and others.

Bobby Raps: "Riff Raff" (Music Video)

Bobby Raps is a youngster (judging by those St. Paul Central letter jackets) in the local rap scene. I don't have much information to share about him at the moment, as his video was passed to me somewhat unexpectedly. Still, the kid is years ahead of many rappers his age. Check out his debut music video for "Riff Raff" above.
