Midwest Broadcast on Temporary Hiatus

Hey folks. I have alluded to this in past blog posts, but starting tomorrow morning, Midwest Broadcast will be inactive for approximately one month. I'm traveling to South Africa to attend World Cup 2010. Needless to say, that trip takes priority over blogging. Furthermore, I'll likely have limited media access while there, making blogging a virtual impossibility.

I return to the good old USA on July 6. It may take a few days to readjust, but fear not, MWB will be back running sometime that month. In the meantime, you can refer to the links section in the sidebar for some other sites to keep you thoroughly updated on hip-hop happenings.

¡Viva fĂștbol! Make sure to tune in to the World Cup to root for the Stars and Stripes!

Guante: "Spirit Bomb" (See More Perspective Remix)

Guante's a smart dude. Here's what he had to say about the video:
It's a cool song. May as well have a video with a cute cat playing fetch so it gets more views. The cat's name is Yoshi.
This song, as you should know, was originally featured on Return to El Guante's Haunted Studio Apartment.

Brother Ali: GoodFella Radio Interview (Video)

Brother Ali sat down with GoodFella Radio during one of his shows in NYC. Props to 2DopeBoyz.

A.R.M.: "Refuse To Lose ft. Muja Messiah & Dodi Phy" (LIve at Soundset 2010)

I'm in the crowd somewhere there watching A.R.M. tear it down with this guest-heavy track on Two Africans and a Jew. Let's be honest, though, wasn't Budo one of the best surprises of the entire day? That man was killing it on the guitar and horns with Grieves and A.R.M.

Eminem: "Won't Back Down ft. Pink" (Prod. DJ Khalil)

New track off Eminem's Recovery, courtesy of Rap Radar. This one's not as good as "Not Afraid", but still better than most of what was on Relapse.

Jordan Looney: His Own Tune (Short Documentary)

Here is a short documentary shot by Dallas Wright profiling rapper and recent Northwestern graduate Jordan Looney.

Kanye West: "Power ft. Dwele" (Mastered)

Here is the final mastered version of "Power," courtesy of Kanye himself, which also makes me believe he was responsible for leaking the song in the first place. Nice work, Ye. The song also comes with artwork by George Condo, who seemingly created his interpretation of Kanye as "21st Century Schizoid Man".

Psalm One: "500 Bars"

Psalm One literally rapped for 500 bars. Apparently she was trying to outdo The Game, or something like that. This is impressive and all, but I can't honestly say I'll ever listen to it. There are ALBUMS that are shorter than this song. Thanks but no thanks. If you're interested in Psalm One, I recommend checking out The Death of Frequent Flyer.

The Cool Kids: Tacklebox (Mixtape)

New heat from The Cool Kids is always a bonus. All but two tracks on this 15-song mixtape were produced by Chuck Inglish, so it's sure to feature some bangers. But where is When Fish Ride Bicycles? Link via 2DopeBoyz.

Mike Dreams: "Success Is..." (Live at Soundset 2010)

Royce Da 5'9": The Bar Exam 3: The Most Interesting Man (Mixtape)

Royce's latest mixtape was released a few days ago, but if you haven't snagged it at another site yet, here it is. Coming in at an absurd length of 29-tracks, there's probably plenty of discardable material here, although Royce is always good for a few gems. Link via 2DopeBoyz.

Sinister Grinch: 'Illuminous Free' Producer of the Month (Video + Song)

Sinister Grinch, who has produced for Devin The Dude, I Self Devine, and more, is the latest producer to collaborate with Illuminous 3 for their monthly 'Illuminous Free' series.

Mike Dreams: "Crewed Up: The Next Generation ft. Chantz Erolin, Just Wulf, Lipset, D'Allen White, Max Haben, Mally & Bobby Richardson"

Mike Dreams recruited quite a posse for this new version of "Crewed Up" featuring an updated roster of Twin Cities newcomers.
