Slum Village: The Dirty Slums (Mixtape)

Elzhi's break with Detroit OG group Slum Village was well documented, but the group has continued pushing on with T3 and newer member Illa J. They just put out a new mixtape with Mick Boogie, The Dirty Slums, and it has an impressive list of collaborators: De La Soul, Rapper Big Pooh, Phonte, Black Milk, Big Sean, and others. Download it below, and hit the jump for the entire tracklist.

Slum Village: "Money Right" (Prod. Madlib)

One of my most anticipated releases on December, Slum Village's Villa Manifesto EP, will be available starting tomorrow. Here's a Madlib-produced track off that project. I can't exactly say that anyone catches the beat all that well, but my expectations for the project remain relatively high.

A Weekend of Hip-Hop in Minneapolis (8/21/09-8/23/09)

Toki Wright and Co. kept busy this past weekend, and was able to document some of his hip-hop adventures. First off is him performing "Good" off of A Different Mirror. Then there are also shots of the Solilaquists of Sound performing at First Ave, Slum Village taking the stage at Rock The Bells, and some behind the scenes footage of Brother Ali's "Fresh Air" video shoot.

Focus: "Homage To Dilla ft. Slum Village, Frank Nitti & Illa J"

Last time I dropped the Focus-produced joint "Homage to Premier," but I didn't know too much about the track. Turns out Focus is working on a project paying homage to some of his favorite artists. This track is dedicated to the late great James Yancey, as three years ago today was the tragic day that Dilla passed away. Slum Village, Frank Nitti, and Illa J (J Dilla's younger brother) hop on this track to pay their respects.

Slum Village: "5 Ela (Demo Version ft. 5Ela"

In my last SV post, I threw up one of their other older demo tracks. Now, T3 let loose another one from the archives, titled "5 Ela," and coincidentally also featuring rapper 5Ela, as well. Hit up T3's blog for his story of SV's lazy song-naming habits, as well as some other commentary.

Slum Village: "Drop The Drums"

T3 of Slum Village recently got up in the blog game (check his site). Via his site, T3 dropped a vintage demo SV track from back in the day.
