Greg Grease's "Rip Well" is a song 3 years in the making. The Mic Titan-produced track is inspired by unwarranted acts of violence in large American cities like Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis and Atlanta, but gained deeper significance due to the recent passing of Greg's friend and musical collaborator Abdulle Elmi. The song builds from Greg starting his rhymes over little more than guitar and 808 kicks to a full-flegged emotional yet paranoid dedication. Greg stated, “I wanted it to be sad but not weepy, angry not aggressive...I really feel like it has its own energy that isn't Greg Grease, I'm just a feature on it”. This intention comes through and makes the track a tribute in the finest form: a statement that resonates powerfully and emotionally without Grease having to preach from a soapbox.

Greg Grease directed the newest video from Soundset 2012 performers Villa Rosa. The song and video for "Food" deconstructs elements of the production of fast food and the consequences of overconsumption. Blue Diamond Island is available right now.

Franz Diego and J-Hard really held it down for Southside Minneapolis with their recent release Sense of Self. Check out the Greg Grease-directed video for "Bike Song" above. The visuals fit the laid back spirit of the song wonderfully.

Greg Grease: "The One" (Mike Frey Remix)

Greg Grease hit me with some excellent news last night. He's currently putting the finishing touches on his upcoming album Cornbread, Pearl, and G. Until it's time for that to be released, we'll be blessed with some songs, videos and his River Life dry goods. Things are getting started off with Mike Frey's remix of "The One," from Greg's excellent free album from last year, The Giving Tree. Frey's breezy production dramatically switches up the feel from the futuristic boom-bap sounds of the original version, without sacrificing any quality; both versions are essential listening.

At the time of writing this post, Greg's Soundcloud stream is still set to private, so you'll just have to download the remix below. I'll add the stream later.

"AlwaysOnIt" is the latest song from I.B.E's That Tape mixtape to get a music video release. The smoked out track features verses from Budah Tye and Muja Messiah, and was produced by Bobby Raps. The video was directed by the multitalented Greg Grease, whose work has been popping up regularly lately.

Akrite of The Usual SuspectS (who was also featured earlier today on the video for I Self Devine's "Pretty Sickness") just had a new song released today through Audio Perm. "Burnin' & Learnin'" features fellow TUSS member Greg Grease and singer Spikaboxxx; it was produced by Cory Grindberg. The track throws a wrench into the popularized conception of the apathetic stoner's daily life, replacing stereotypical time-wasting smoker pursuits like video games with a thirst for knowledge in literature and conversation. The mixtape is 16 tracks that Grease collaborated on with all his friends and family. The project intends to channel his feelings of being a youth growing up in Southside Minneapolis. "Dreams" touches on the oft-used indie rap theme of not striving for materialistic goals but only the basic necessities in life, which is all you need to be truly happy. The EP is an 8 track free download with special guests Alicia Steele, Alissa Paris, Freeze (Illuminous 3), Akrite (T.U.S.S.), and Proper-T, with production by Benzilla, Pc, Javier Santiago, and Greg Birth.
